Life really can be a picnic!

Everyone loves a picnic! This blog is about some of the things I love the most, and the term "picnic" just about covers them all. First of all, a picnic has to include food; simple food that is easy to fix. Next, you need someplace fun or different to visit; a nice, peaceful location. And of course, you always need to take along a good book to read and a well-used quilt to spread everything out on. So, there you have it! Easy recipes, good books, fun quilts along with some interesting, down-to-earth places to visit. You can even take your family or a friend or two if you want.

Birthday Wishes

"The great thing about getting older is that you don't lose all the other ages you've been. ~ Madeleine L'Engle

August is my birthday month.  Sometimes I feel like my birthday is a reward for getting through the hot summer.  Usually around this time of year there is a quilt show in Springville at the Art Museum there.  I love going there as a part of my birthday celebration and this year my husband took the day off work to take me there. Here are some of the beautiful quilts displayed there.

Here's a very simple recipe that uses up the abundance of tomatoes and cucumbers this time of year.  It's a very refreshing salad.

Pesto Tomato Cucumber Salad
½ cup Italian salad dressing
¼ cup pesto
¼ tsp. salt
¼ tsp. pepper
3 large tomatoes, quartered and sliced ½” thick
2 medium cucumbers, peeled and halved lengthwise and cut ¼” thick
¼ red onion, sliced thinly
Whisk salad dressing, pesto, salt and pepper.  Combine tomatoes, cucumbers and onion in a medium bowl. Toss with dressing. Makes 6-8 servings.

Safe Passage by [Kelly, Carla]

I read another Carla Kelly book.  I think she's a very gifted author.  This book is about people living in Mexico during the Mexican Revolution and how some tried to escape to the United States.
