"It's almost impossible to be funnier than the people in Washington" ~ Carol Burnett
I have been working hard on this spool quilt. I am happy with the way it turned out. Michelle machine quilted it with an edge to edge pattern that includes images of rotary cutters, pincushions, scissors, etc.. I used fat quarters that I have collected along the way, many of them came from my trip to Pennsylvania. The pattern for this quilt is called Sewing Stars by Marjorie Rhine for Quilt Design Northwest. I love the secondary patterns that were created when the blocks were sewn together in rows.
Here are more pictures from our trip back east. Included are the pictures taken in Washington DC and across the Potomac River into Virginia.
Summer is a time for family gatherings and lots of salads. I have two recipes for salads that are perfect for these occasions. One comes from my friend, Patti. It's so easy and so delicious and creamy. The second recipe is one that my daughter brought to a family party. I loved the crunch in it.
Berry Yogurt Salad
2 small
packages cheesecake pudding mix
1 large
container strawberry yogurt
1-16 oz.
container cool whip
1 large
package triple berry frozen fruit (strawberries, blueberries and raspberries)
Mix first
three ingredients and stir well. Let
frozen fruit thaw slightly and fold into yogurt mixture just before
serving.
Frito Corn Salad
1
can yellow kernel corn, drained
1
can black beans, drained and rinsed
½ cup celery, diced½ red and or green bell pepper, sliced and chopped
½
cup onion, chopped
1
cup mayonnaise
1
½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
1
large package (10 oz.) chili cheese flavor Frito corn chips
Mix
together all ingredients except for the Fritos.
Refrigerate until ready to serve.
Stir in Fritos until well mixed when serving. (I would add some fresh tomatoes that have
been chopped and drained if I were making the salad.)
I just finished reading this book by Carol Burnett. I grew up watching her variety show on TV and loved it. She is such a funny lady. If you can overlook her colorful vocabulary you'll enjoy this book and see that she's a very compassionate and lovely lady.
